How to win an aura battle: 12 tips from organisers and winners
What actually wins aura battles according to the people running them: composure, timing, commitment, a bit of comedy, and knowing when to walk off. Plus how to win the online version.
Winning an aura battle has very little to do with being good at anything. It has everything to do with control. These tips are pulled from what organisers in Mexico City, Lima, La Plata and Madrid say they look for, plus what the winners actually did.
1. Decide your character before you step in
Winners commit to a persona: the cold villain, the anime protagonist, the businessman, the guy who has genuinely never cared about anything. Pick one and stay in it. A Mexico City organiser's rule: "sin hablar, minimizar movimientos, mantener confianza." No talking, minimal movement, keep the confidence.
2. Do not laugh
This is the whole game. In Spain the rule was reported bluntly: laughing, hesitating or losing your balance equals defeat. Your opponent will try to make you break. Look through them.
3. Open big, then go still
Start with a recognisable move the crowd can shout along to, like the Siuuu or the 6-7, then drop into stillness. The contrast is the point. Silence after noise reads as power.
4. Slow everything down
Slow walks, slow turns, slow shade adjustments. The "aura walk" is literally walking slowly with a straight back. Speed reads as nerves.
5. Use the crowd's rhythm
Battles run on phonk. Landing your move on the beat makes it feel inevitable. The online version keeps the music — a phonk track is a match — but nothing there has to land on the beat: the moves you pick decide.
6. Bring one prop, not five
The best bits in 2026 were single, committed props: a perfume bottle, a giant sandal used as a lasso, a frog suit with a clog. One prop is a character. Five props is a costume party.
7. Get a laugh, but never at your own expense
Judges in Mexico City explicitly score "who gets more laughs". The laugh should come from the audacity of the move, not from you being funny. Deadpan wins.
8. React to nothing
While your opponent performs, you are a statue. The Piccolo stance exists for this. Every reaction is aura transferred to them.
9. Know the vocabulary
Crowds cheer for moves they recognise. Learn the canon: every aura farming move. Then do one they don't expect.
10. Never check if it landed
Looking at the crowd to see if they liked it is the fastest way to lose aura in existence. Assume it landed.
11. End with a walk-off
Turn, leave, don't look back. Michael Jordan invented this for a reason. Your last image is the one the crowd votes on.
12. If you lose, lose with aura
Nod once. Walk. The loser who doesn't care sometimes gets the bigger cheer.
How to win the online version
In Aura Battles GG there is no timing to master and nothing to buy that beats a bigger move. The bigger move wins, you can always pass, and the whole skill is deciding which pots are worth your best move:
- Read the ante before you decide. You see it before you lead or answer. A small early ante is not worth a big move; a late pot probably is. The question is never "what have I got", it's "is this pot worth it".
- Passing is a purchase. You gain a sauce every round, and passing pays another plus a new move. Give up a cheap pot and you can afford a massive move later. Give up three in a row and you've bought nothing — you've just paid three antes.
- Leading and answering are different jobs. When you lead, a tie only gives the antes back, so lead big enough to win. When you answer, you see their move first: beat it, or keep your sauce and pass. HYPE is a leader's move, GIANT SLAYER an answerer's, and CLUTCH turns a tie into a win either way.
- Watch their sauce. It's public. A fighter sitting on 3 is holding something. A fighter on 1 can only throw a light move.
- Passing is free when they pass too. Two passes and both antes come back. But a pass against a move loses the pot.
- Late, cheap is expensive. The ante grows every round and the clock tightens. Passing stops being affordable long before the match ends, which is exactly when you find out who was hoarding.
Every rule and effect is in the Aura Battles game guide; the street rules are in how aura battles work. Fight now and practise against the bot first. Watch how long it takes: a quick answer is usually an easy decision, and a long one is usually a real one.
FAQ
What is the best move to win an aura battle?
There isn't one. Composure wins. The most cheered moves in 2026 were the Siuuu, the 6-7, mewing and the boat kid dance, but they only work if you don't break.
Do you need to be good at dancing?
No. Most winners barely move. Stillness and timing beat choreography.
How do you beat someone who is funnier than you?
Don't compete on comedy. Go colder. The crowd often sides with the one who refuses to react.
