Anime and aura farming: Piccolo, Gojo, Itachi, Sung Jinwoo and why "aura" looks like that
How anime gave "aura" its visuals and its heroes: Dragon Ball's glowing power-ups, Jujutsu Kaisen's Domain Expansion, the Piccolo edits that defined aura farming, and the characters fans call the biggest aura farmers.
When someone says a person "has aura", the picture in their head is an anime power-up: the glow around the body, the hair lifting, rocks floating. That's not a coincidence. The meme took its visuals from anime before it took its heroes.
The visual root
Dragon Ball drew literal auras around fighters decades ago, and "It's over 9000!" made power a number you could read off a scouter. That's the ancestor of "+10,000 aura". Bleach's spiritual pressure, Naruto's chakra and Jujutsu Kaisen's Domain Expansion added the idea that presence alone can make everyone else kneel. Roblox then sold "auras" as cosmetic effects around avatars, so a generation grew up thinking of aura as something you wear.
The Piccolo edits
In November 2024, Instagram edits of Piccolo, arms crossed, cape blowing, completely still while everyone around him panics, were captioned "aura farming". One cosplayer standing motionless with cape effects passed 950,000 views; a "top ranked aura farmer" edit passed 3.2 million. The Piccolo stance became the definition of the "no reaction" move, and it's still one of the highest-value poses in aura battles.
The characters fans call aura farmers
- Piccolo (Dragon Ball): the stance.
- Gojo Satoru (Jujutsu Kaisen): the blindfold reveal, Hollow Purple, Domain Expansion. Blue aura.
- Itachi (Naruto): eye contact that puts you in a genjutsu.
- Killua and Sasuke: the quiet ones who don't explain.
- Sung Jinwoo (Solo Leveling): "Arise." The shadows stand up.
- Aizen, Madara, Dio, King (One-Punch Man), Sakamoto: characters who command a scene by doing almost nothing.
A Christmas 2024 Reddit thread staged an "aura off" between Piccolo and Killua, an early written version of the battle format.
The anime moves in a battle
Anime poses are a recognised category in the 2026 street battles ("poses de anime"). In the Aura Battles game, original moves in the same spirit are the rarest things in the locker:
- World Shift (a hand sign that changes the arena), Void Orb, Power Up and Arise are legendary.
- Spirit Pressure, Mind Trap and Blindfold Off are epic.
- Anime Pose (one hand forward, one back, wind from nowhere) is rare and unlocks early.
They are rarer, not stronger. In a battle, the bigger move takes the pot and every move carries a one-line effect — Arise, for one, is a massive that takes a ready move from the other side when it wins. Rarity changes how a move looks, never what it beats. Full move list, or start a battle.
FAQ
Which anime character has the most aura?
Fan lists usually put Gojo, Piccolo, Itachi, Sung Jinwoo and Aizen at the top. The common trait: they win without visibly trying.
Why is aura an anime thing?
Because anime drew it literally, as a glow around powerful characters, and gave power a number. The meme kept both.
What is Domain Expansion?
A Jujutsu Kaisen technique where a sorcerer projects their inner world around them. As a meme, it's a hand sign you hold while pretending the room just changed.
